Congratulations to members that tested on June 17. Thank you Jenn, Ronni and the volunteer parents for a great first test session.
NJC FSC AWARDS
Congratulations to Dana Manson and Cara Levinson of the Skating Club of Morris who will be honored on Sunday by the New Jersey Council of Figure Skating Clubs.
Each year the Council selects a figure skater from a NJ member club for accomplishments in figure skating over the previous year. Skaters earn points based on US Figure Skating tests passed, placement in US Figure Skating Qualifying Competitions and placement in US Figure Skating Non-Qualifying Competitions. The eligible skater receiving the most points in the previous year is awarded the Kern Trophy. The NJC FSC selected Dana this year.
In the past year, Dana's accomplishments included passing the Senior Moves in the Field Test, the highest test in that discipline. She competed on the 2007-8 Precisely Right Synchronized Skating Intermediate Team which placed 4rd at the US Eastern Sectional Championships and competed at the US National Championships.
Cara has been selected for the NJC FSC Academic Honor team. This award recognizes balanced accomplishments in figure skating and academics. To qualify, to apply, a junior or senior in high school must be a home club member of a NJ figure skating club with a minimum of an intermediate USFSA test passed... After these skating requirements, the award is heavily weighted toward academic achievements. To be considered, the GPA must be 3.4 (93%) & higher (what courses, etc. counts in the weight of the GPAs too). The essay counts for 20% of the final score -- the overall resume counts for 20% & the scholastics count for 60% of the score in the judging system.
Dana and Cara received their awards on Sunday, June 7th at the Richard J. Codey Arena, West Orange, New Jersey.
